Windows Server 2012 Auditing Deep Dive: Claims, Dynamic Access Control, Centralized Permissions

Webinar Registration

In Windows Server 2012, Microsoft has added a whole new way of controlling file system permissions and auditing. In addition to the classic object level permissions available on each folder and file, you can now define central access control and audit policies in Active Directory that are applied across all the entire domain.

You can also define “dynamic” access control and audit policies so that permissions and audit decisions are based attributes of the user and how the object is classified. For instance, you can make a rule that anyone in the Finance department is granted access to documents classified as Accounting records or you can configuring auditing to track only when a non-Finance employee accesses Accounting records.

In this webinar, I will give you a detailed tour of centralized and dynamic access/audit features of Windows Server 2012. We will cover:
  • Classifying objects
  • Defining user attributes
  • Creating central access/audit policies
  • Creating dynamic claims-based access and audit policies
We will also identity caveats and other gotchas to be aware of; this is interesting technology but it can quickly become confusing if not designed correctly and properly understood. For instance, central access/audit policies are not as “visible” as normal object level controls defined on the “Security tab”.

You’ll learn a lot about the new security features in Windows Server 2012 and how to manage them. I’ll be joined by Tim Sedlack from Dell Software who will briefly show us how Dell compliance tools have evolved to incorporate these new interfaces so you’re covered whether you’re using old style NTFS permission, new Dynamic Access Control permission – or even a combination of both.
