Back in 2008, Microsoft for the first time gave SQL Server a real audit logging capability that was flexible and powerful but limited it to Enterprise edition.
Now, more and more organizations are recognizing the need to know what’s happening at the database level instead of just in the OS. And Microsoft has responded by making SQL Server audit logging functionality available in all editions of SQL Server – even the free Express editions. And this includes not just server level security events but database level actions like INSERT, SELECT, DELETE on individual tables – what Microsoft calls “fine-grained” auditing.
In this webinar, we’ll give you a tour of everything new in SQL Server audit logging across the entire product-line:
- SQL Server 2016 SP1
- SQL Server 2017
- SQL Server on Linux
- Azure SQL
All of these products support audit logging but as always, the devil’s in the details and I’ll untangle these for you.
Here’s some of the questions we’ll answer:
- What new events are logged by SQL Server 2016 SP1 and 2017?
- How does auditing work in SQL Server on Linux?
- How do you enable auditing in Azure SQL?
- How do you get audit logs out of the Azure cloud?
I'll finish up by briefly showing you how our sponsor, LOGbinder, enables you to get this treasure trove of audit data into your SIEM without ever touching your production SQL Servers. Your DB admins will love you for that.
