I am in the process of configuring Windows Advanced Auditing have a question about the 'Audit Account Lockout' setting under the Logon/Logoff category. It states:

"If you configure this policy setting, an audit event is generated when an account cannot log on to a computer because the account is locked out. Success audits record successful attempts and failure audits record unsuccessful attempts."

I don't understand how 'success' and 'failure' apply in this scenario. Is a failed attempt to logon due to a locked account considered a "success"? If not, and it's a failure, then a success would have to be when an account IS able to logon despite it being locked?
